On my last trip to Quebec City I found a lot of interesting places to eat with a lot of delicious dishes and none were poutine. You can find traditional French-Canadian food in Old Quebec City, but you can also find international food influenced by a variety of immigrants who live in the area. If I had my way I would’ve eaten my way through Quebec City every day, with no stopping. But Canada is not a cheap place to visit, so I had to be mindful of what I spent every time I went out. Here’s a list of a few places in Quebec City where you can find something really delicious to eat without breaking the bank.

Chocolato:

Chocolato was literally dripping in chocolate. You have your choice of getting hot chocolate, ice cream, cakes, cookies, specialty chocolates and cupcakes here. The hot chocolate was made with real chocolate, lots and lots of it. You could choose from dark chocolate, to coconut chocolate to caramel chocolate. Anything you can dream up involving chocolate they had it. I was in love I stopped by several times. But on top of amazing food I have to say they also had great customer service. As far as budget goes, you will have to spend some bucks in here, but it’s so worth it once you try the food. If you have a sweet tooth this is the place for you. It’s one of the first places you see when you enter the Citadel of Old Quebec City.

Patisserie Denis Tannous:

Being the grilled cheese connoisseurs my children have become they couldn’t pass by this place without trying a grilled cheese. Every single time we passed by this restaurant we were greeted with a large sign for grilled cheese. We decided to try it and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. The melted goodness of the cheese and the crisp texture of the bread was a perfect combination. The best part is, this place is a one stop shop. You get to also choose from an amazing selection of desserts and bread. They also sell wraps, gyros and sandwiches with Greek influences. The prices are mid-range which wouldn’t break the bank. The best time is to show up around lunch when they have deals.

Le Casse-Crepe Breton:

This place was crepe heaven. There was a wait of course because of its popularity, but once I got my food I realized why. You have your choice of sweet or savory crepes. I chose the ham and cheese with asparagus for my meal and the strawberries and banana with chocolate for dessert. The savory crepes came with a salad, the dessert crepes came with a fruit salad. All under $10 each.Ā Casse Crepe Breton has been around for almost 35 years and I don’t see it going anywhere, anytime soon.

Le Poulet Portugais:

This place is what Nando’s wish they could be. From the savory chicken with Portuguese spices to the rice and fries. You can get a plate of grilled half chicken with rice or fries or salad for $16.50. With good food and reasonable prices I realize why this place was so busy on a Saturday,. The best part is you can bring your own wine. Click the link for more more menu informationĀ Poulet Portugais.

  2. While on a trip, we always need to make a late afternoon stop for coffee and dessert. This post gives me a few ideas for that while in Quebec. Canada may materialize for us this October, so this comes at the right time. šŸ™‚

  3. All these places have my mouth watering! I think I would have a savory crepe and then a dessert one if they are only $10!! But honestly, you had me when you started this post with a place that is ‘dripping in chocolate’! I’ve never been to Quebec City but it’s good to know that there is such a good variety of foods to try!
