Budgeting for travel in 2022 is no easy task. There are so many things to consider including, flight, hotel, transportation and any required testing for the country you will enter. Looking at the costs you will have to encounter in 2022 here are some tips for budgeting in 2022 and how to get the most out of your travel experiences. To begin, check the testing requirements of each country you will be entering before you book your flight. If you can’t meet the vaccination or testing requirement it might be best to head elsewhere. Be sure to budget for $50 to $100 for testing.
Booking The Flight:
Booking flights for 2022 definitely requires booking 3 to 6 months ahead. Prices are slowly creeping back up to pre-2020 rates. Be sure to shop around and track flight prices using tools like Hopper or Google Flights. Booking a flight in 2022 can take up most of your travel budget if not done right. Be sure to do your research and consider if you may have to change departure or arrival locations. Consider whether you can flight overnight or have stopovers to cut the cost. The most important part is to get booked and get there.
Getting The Right Hotel:
Getting the right hotel booked can make or break your trip. Book hotels near enough to the city-center to keep you close to the best activities and transportation. I never advise booking directly in the city-center of wherever you travel. These hotels are usually the most expensive with the least amount of amenities. Be sure to book hotels with free breakfast included to help cut that expense from your food budget.
Spending on Food:
Food for me usually holds the largest expense. When I travel I’m always mindful to eat in the most local spots. The food is authentic and they stay close to the traditions of the culture. I find if you want to budget for food you have to consider who you are traveling with. When traveling with kids be prepared to spend more on food for older children. With younger children you can always split the portions. Be prepared to spend between $300 to $400 on food realistically for a one week trip. If you book free breakfast with your hotel stay, you can expect to spend less.
Budgeting for Activities:
Budgeting for activities can range from $100 to $200 depending on what you want to do. Looking for cooking classes prepare to pay between $50 to $100. Museums could range from $10 to $50 depending on the location. Places like Park Guell in Barcelona could run you from $12 to $35 depending on if you want to explore on your own or take a guided tour. If you are visiting a large city you might be able to find a museum with free entry. But specialty museums usually have a fee associated. Click here for more information on planning a trip to Spain.
Budget Enough to Get Around:
I’ve noticed early on in my travels I never considered my budget for transportation because I spent most of my time walking. What I can say about budgeting for travel in 2022, you need to consider transportation wherever you go. My advice is to get a travel pass. There are some places like Rome and Florence where you can get the city pass which includes museum passes and transportation. Get a travel pass that gives you the opportunity to get around on the bus, train or tram all day for the length of time you will be visiting. Also be sure to factor in if you will need Uber or a Taxi to get to and from the airport.
Happy Travels!
