Welcome to Restaurant Week!
There was so much variety this year for restaurant week, I couldn’t help but try what New Haven’s best restaurants had to offer. From traditional French to Nuevo-Latino cuisines, I opened my mouth and my mind to new culinary experiences. This year I headed to Pacifico, Caseus and Union League Cafe. I had Tarry Lodge Iron Chef Mario Batali’s restaurant on my list. But unfortunately I couldn’t make it. As you know good food is to be eaten with care and time, there’s always next year. Restaurant Week offers diners a generous prix fixed menu at the rate of $17 for lunch $34 for dinner. Dinner prices depend on where you eat. At Union League, the dinner menu started at $49. Take a look at the wonderful food I did have the pleasure of eating and what I recommend for you if you find yourself in the New Haven area.
Pacifico
Located on the corner of Crown St. and College St. This Latino inspired restaurant has more than just tapas and sangria. I headed to Pacifico for lunch. Which at the $17 range was a steal. At the suggestion of the waiter, I tried the corn chowder with crab meat, which blew me away. There were several options for the second course, including a shrimp salad, plantain crusted tilapia and a salmon sandwich. I had the salmon sandwich which included bacon, kale, tomato and chipotle mayo served with cumin fries. I highly recommend that dish for anyone heading there for lunch. Go to Pacifico for the atmosphere, the drinks and the amazing customer service.
Caseus
If you’e a cheese lover, this place is for you. From the appetizers to desserts, everything contains delicious “fromage”. Tucked away on Whitney Ave. this lovely bistro restaurant has a little something for everyone, vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. For Restaurant Week I had lunch there for $17. The prix fixed menu consisted of appetizers, a main course and dessert. Unfortunately the price doesn’t include beverages, so I did have to pay for my lemonade. I’m happy to say though, I will be heading back soon. I hear the Mac and Cheese there is to die for.
Union League Cafe
This lovely fine dining restaurant is located on Chapel St. just down the street from the Yale Center for British Art, has much to offer if traditional French dining is for you. The atmosphere was amazing, especially when sitting at the large front windows over-looking Chapel St.
I usually take advice from the waiter when it comes to the best drinks on the menu, which for Union League included an extensive wine menu. We started with a delicious salad, filled with shallots, lettuce, eggs and peas. The main course, was simple, yet delicious. A beautifully presented pork chop with lentils. I didn’t care much for my dessert, a cup of vanilla ice cream with almonds. I did try what my brother ordered and that was more pleasing to my palate. The Restaurant Week menu here, was delicious, but a little limited. With that said, I’ll certainly be heading back there soon to try some more delicious options, like the sea bass and fennel.
If you can’t get to New Haven, CT. I encourage you to try Restaurant Week in your own community. Perhaps you might discover new culinary experiences you never knew existed.

New Haven’s a great place to visit anytime of the year!
A great collection of food pictures to inspire foodies like me. They all look very tempting.
They were amazing. I’m a hardcore foodie as well so I know what you mean.
That looks absolutely delicious! If I am in town, I will have to make a stop there.
You certainly should Megan.
Interesting review! It seems like there was no time to get hungry that week 🙂
This is always a busy time in New Haven.
Food: My favourite thing in the world! That salmon sandwich and crabmeat chowder look amazing! They’d be my choices as well, mostly because I STILL haven’t tried chowder before!
Trust me this is always my favorite time of the year in New Haven.
Some fine tasty looking food in this post. If I am in the area, I will check the place out 🙂
You certainly should!
This all looks so good! Pinning for a future visit!
Thanks! You certainly should make a visit to New Haven.
Awesome! And looks yummy:)
It looks like you had quite a good time at restaurant week. You must have been so full eating all there was. It all looks so fancy too.
The Union League was very fancy. Its not a place I would eat at on a regular day.
Restaurant week? Sign me up! These places look great; I’d love to visit New Haven for this. It must get really busy!
It does get busy during restaurant week. But due to Yale New Haven is kind-of busy all the time.
I love restourant weeks and this photos made me sooo hungry! 🙂
Mouth watering photos is what I like. That means I did my job! You should certainly make the trip Laura.
Oh, I’d be all for that Caseus and cheese dishes! Went back to read those few sentences again, to make sure you said there is cheese in all of them! 😀
LOL! Yes. And they are all so good. There is also a cheese shop in the basement with foreign and domestic cheese.
I’m fond of cheese and would love to visit Caseus and try its delicacies! All the food you had looks incredibly delicious!
They were delicious. Thanks for stopping by.
The restaurant focused squarely on cheese would be my choice, restaurant week or no. That would do it.
It was a must stop for me.
The idea of restaurant week sounds very cool. It is definitely the best time to experience the local cuisine while travelling to New Haven. Wonderful post..
Thanks! It happens all around CT. But its my favorite restaurant week.
This post actually makes me hungry! looks all so yummy! I am a food lover myself and you can wake me up for a good meal! would definitely love to visit this restaurant week!
You would love it. I’m a food addict as well. I was borderline ready to go back the week after. But heading to Spain in a week, had to get in line with my diet.
