Where I Started:
I know you came for the vision board, but I think it’s important to start this post with an origin story. I had heard about vision boards for years, but never thought it was relevant to create my own. But I ended 2020 feeling drained and discouraged on many levels. Things were going awry around the world. I had spent most of the year at home. I knew I needed a change but didn’t know where to begin. This led me down the path to YouTube. Looking for resources that would align with me as a Black woman and an educator who was drained. I couldn’t travel and although I was doing work I loved, things had changed with our entire structure. This lead me to Stephanie Perry and Rashida Dowe. Women who were living their best lives and helping other women to do the same.
Getting Inspired:
Being on a different path from where I ended 2020. I felt a sense of comfort in the content the and crew were sharing. I felt not only inspired but empowered. From career growth to business savvy to financial literacy, I started taking all the elements I had learned from these incredible women and thought about my vision for the future. Things really came to a head when I watched Stephanie Perry’s 2022 Vision Board Party. I was inspired by the way she broke things down into categories. She also demonstrated how to create your own using the website Canva.
Creating a Vision Board:
What is a vision board? A vision board is a visual tool to help you achieve your goals and manifest your dreams. Starting a vision board begins with knowing yourself. Including knowing your strengths and areas of weakness. I start my vision board with my word of the year. From there I focus on a variety of categories including:
- Financial goals
- Health goals
- Relationship goals
- Professional goals
- Personal goals
- Big dreams
- Travel
From there, find photos or quotes that align with what you see for your future relating to each of these categories. Thinking about travel for the coming year? Finding an engaging photo of the location you want to visit is important. If you have financial goals you want to set, take a picture of the number you want to reach. If you want to eat better to improve your health find photos that align with these types of foods. From there organize your board. If you want to use Canva, this can be helpful for your digital boards, but it can also be printed.
Remember, a vision board is not something you do and then move on from there. You need to put it in places where you can see it daily. Feeling it and believing it. Set small, achievable goals for each category and write them down. Want to know more? Check out how I took my inspiration from Stephanie Perry and turned it into a new vision for my own life.
