Planning for a Polo Match:
I’ve always wanted to attend a polo match. If you’ve watched the Pretty Woman movie and you remember the scene when Julia Roberts’ character goes to the polo match with Gere’s character. This is one of the most memorable scenes from the movie for me, especially the outfits and hats. The goal with my outfit was to go for a dark monochrome look. As we were going to be outside I thought light colors would gather dirt and dust easily. The only drawback with this would be the heat. Lighter colors are best for keeping people cool. Planning for the opening weekend of 2021 with safety considerations in mind. I bought tickets and started planning what to wear with my bestie.
First and foremost, tickets for the Greenwich Polo Club vary depending on what you are looking to experience. Secondly, I knew it would be too hot for us to sit in the field on a blanket and I knew I didn’t want to pack blankets. The best choice for my bestie and I were to be in the Players Lounge aka the VIP tent. This came at a cost which was $150 for 2. These tickets for instance came with parking, live music and entertainment. It was also located at the front of the field. Unfortunately, there is no food or drink included with this price.
Welcome to Opening Weekend:
Attending the opening weekend match was definitely one of the highlights of my summer. After a long 2020 indoors it felt good to be outdoors, connecting with people, seeing new things and having a new outlook on life. There were a lot of local vendors around the perimeter of the field, including crafts and jewelry. There are food trucks available where you can get lunch and dessert. I was also pleased with the drinks selection of the pop-up bar near the grandstand. Opening weekend happens in June. Remember to bring your sunglasses and wallet.
My First Polo Experience:
Showing up and seeing how the environment was set up was an eye-opener for me. We parked on the grass, so good thing I wore cheek wedges. Everywhere I turned I was given compliments for my fascinator. Thinking about attending again this year, I now know it’s best to plan ahead with food options considering the wait if you order on arrival or get food from a food truck. The atmosphere was definitely a vibe and it was interesting to meet new people, some local to Greenwich and some coming from out of town and state. But it’s definitely an experience I look forward to having again in 2022. Follow this link for more things to do when visiting Connecticut.
