Salem, Massachusetts is one of those places that come to life once a year. But comes to life in the best way. If you’re into Halloween, cosplay and witch trials history, Salem is the place for you. Planning a trip for October? Here’s what you can eat, see and do to enjoy your time there.

What to Eat:

Jolie Tea, located in the center of Salem is a great place to stop and have a cup of tea to warm you up after a day of walking. Every time I visit Salem I make time to visit this tea house. The scones, the macrons, everything you need to accompany that amazing cup of tea. My favorite tea has to be the Lavender Earl Grey. I took a canister home on my last visit. If you’re in town for a few days you can make reservations to have afternoon tea here. This is a special treat that would consist of finger sandwiches, desserts and tea.

What to See:

If you remember watching the show Bewitched as a child, you can visit the statue of Samantha on her broom. An homage to Salem’s witch history, the statue is a reminder that Salem is filled with images of witches of the past and present. Ropes Mansion was lovely to visit as it had a beautiful garden on the estate where all are welcome. Ropes Mansion is operated by the Peabody Essex Museum, so if you’re interested in getting into the house you can do FREE self-guided tours on the weekend.

What to Do:

There’s much to be done in Salem, including visiting the night markets, museums, restaurants and shops. Salem has everything for everyone. You can shop for candles, books, spices and even tarot cards.

The Witch House museum would’ve been lovely to visit, but they were so booked we were told to return the next day. This is definitively a great place to stop on your visit, Located on Essex st. It was the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin and is the last remaining structure still standing from the time of the witch trials. Click the link for more information: https://www.thewitchhouse.org/

Walking Tours are also a good idea. There are daytime ones and ones done in the evening (Haunted Walking Tours). Follow the link for more information: https://www.crowhavencorner.com/witch-walk

Looking to visit the Hocus Pocus house, you need to head out of the center of town to the waterfront. Google will help you get there: 4 Ocean Ave. Salem, MA.
