My Story:

I’ve been a teacher for 15 years and love what I do in the classroom as an educator in higher education. But I’m here to talk about escaping the classroom and trying new things. As an educator, people seem to think we live inside our classrooms. Like we have no life outside of teaching. But for me, I fell in love with traveling back in 2016 and I never looked back. As an educator when you travel you bring a little bit of the place you’ve been back with you. This is not only great for your students, but it makes your classroom environment more enriching. For educators feeling burnt out, escaping the classroom is a way to feel renewed. And this is something travel has always done for me.

Where I’ve Been:

I’ve been to some amazing places over the past several years. From Iceland to Italy, there’s so much to do and see. No matter when you decide to make traveling part of your journey, each country has something for you. I’ve enjoyed my time visiting the countries below. If you have been following my blog for awhile you have seen the amazing journey I’ve been on. If you’re new, explore the travel section to see the amazing places I’ve been, and how you can plan your own escape from the classroom. No time to browse, start here.

Travel for Fun vs Travel for Work:

Why not have both. In a world full of options, it’s always better to get best of both worlds and teaching abroad or online can give you these opportunities. There are some teachers who have such severe burnout taking a sabbatical is the only way for them to recuperate and carry on living a healthy life. If you are still interested in teaching but, want to see the world, consider working as an international teacher. Teaching outside of the U.S. has a variety of advantages, including more school breaks.

If you’re someone traveling with your classroom in mind consider an education tour. Programs like Bookbag Tours and Education First EF, give you the opportunity to visit amazing countries, see what schools look like in those countries, but also offer cultural experiences like no other. If you’re looking to escape the classroom, I have some great news for you. I recently published a book to inspire and inform educators about all the ways they could teach, travel and still see the world. If you think this book is for you click here Loves Teaching, Will Travel.

The Benefits of Travel for Teachers:

Teaching in a different environment brings out so many different perspectives and thoughts. Talents you may have never thought about. There are so many benefits of travel for teachers. When people hear teachers and travel in the same sentence it might not make much sense. But there are so many teachers able to travel the world, because they took a chance and decided to either work as an international teacher or work as a TEFL teacher in another country or online. This is what inspired me to start my podcast last year. I wanted to share the story of others with an audience who would be inspired to learn more, taking a chance on seeing the world for themselves.
