If you’ve ever been to Nando’s or love peri-peri chicken, Flatties is the place for you when you come to Antigua. The restaurant is located in the English Harbour area a stones throw from Nelson’s Dock Yard. The restaurant isn’t open during the day, but it’s a hot spot when night comes. The hours are from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. They’re not open on Mondays. When I showed up with my cousin I thought we would be able to find a seat and order easily. But this place is so popular with locals of the island and tourists that we couldn’t get a seat. Being that I was hungry I agreed to eat at the bar. I have to say sitting at the bar had it’s benefits, but more to come on that.
What’s on the Menu:
I ate a lot of good food in Antigua. Home-cooked meals, street-side food and meals at restaurants, but nothing compared to what I experienced at Flatties. There were so many options, I couldn’t choose just one thing from the menu. So my cousin and I decided to order two different things and share. I enjoyed the peri-peri chicken wings which were top-rated for sure. The wings were flavorful and cooked to perfection and came with an option of fries, coleslaw or salad. I also had the Mozambique style prawns with the wine and garlic sauce, which was full of flavor and very tender. The prawns came with rice and a salad. And I have to say beyond the prawns, the rice and salad could’ve been eaten without any kind of meat. Everything was again done to perfection and only cost me $22.
When it came to cost, Flatties is surprisingly budget-friendly when it came to the food. With a half of a grilled lobster served with rice and salad costing $25. This doesn’t apply to drinks though as with most restaurants in Antigua, drinks are a little pricey.
Drinks Anyone?
Sitting at the bar had it’s benefits for sure. The bartender was very attentive and helped me experiment with a few different drinks. Beyond pina colada, Flatties has a wide variety of drinks both foreign and traditional. The bartender will make you what you want as long as they have the ingredients. But nothing compared to the rum punch which is a specialty in Antigua.
Get Here Soon!
Here’s why Flatties is my top rated place to eat in Antigua. They have great staff and amazing customer service. The food is brought out on a wooden board which added to the laid-back island ambiance. The food was fresh but prepared in a timely manner, we didn’t wait longer than 10 minutes for our food. The restaurants location was also in a quiet area, so even though other restaurants and bars were nearby. Flatties has it’s own vibe and is definitely worth a try when you visit Antigua.
