Getting there by Train:

Going on a day trip from London can be one of the easiest things you do when visiting England. From Paddington station you can visit the Cotswold’s, including Oxford and Stow-on-the-Wold. Train travel has become one of my favorite ways to get around and getting to Stow-on-the-World and then Oxford by local transportation was a great way to spend a Friday. Tickets can be purchased at Paddington station or online. Be aware if you purchase the Costsworlds Discoverer One Day Pass from Paddington station, you will still have to pay for local buses within the Cotswold’s.

Where to Eat:

Looking for a cozy place to have afternoon tea? What better place to stop than Lucy’s tearoom. It’s a great place to stop before you do your shopping and exploring in Stow-on-the-Wold. As afternoon tea is one of my favorite pastimes, I was on a mission to visit Lucy’s. In Oxford there were a wealth of delicious places to find food as well, including Caribbean food at Spiced Roots. Visiting the The Covered Market, is also a great way to find food at a wide variety of stalls.

What to Do:

In Stow you can cover a lot of ground in a few short hours. From the shopping center to walking around the scenic village. In Oxford, there are more options, including visiting museums and walking around the Oxford University grounds. Visiting the Ashmolean museum is a great way to pass the time in the city, especially if you love art and archeology. There are a variety of artifacts on site from Ancient Greece to Egypt. If visiting with children, the Story Museum is a great choice for families.

What to See:

Walking around Stow-on-the-Wold, the calm of the English countryside leaves you wanting to stay forever. From the Cotswold’s yellow stone to the green fields that seem to go on forever. I’m looking forward to spending more time there on a future trips to England. In Oxford, there’s so much to see as the past meets the future, from the architecture to the food. Spending a few hours walking around this beautiful city will always be worth it to me, every single time.

Why I Would Do it Again:

Day trips by train have become one of my favorite ways to explore a country. Rather than stay in a major city or only explore the major tourist locations, I find I get more out of a trip by visiting neighboring towns by train, learning more about the country I visit and the people who live there.
