Helsinki to Stockholm by Sea:
Want to get from Helsinki to Stockholm in style, the Silja Serenade is the way to get there. I’ve traveled like this twice and it gets better every time. Although it’s known as a ferry, there is nothing about this experience that reminds me of riding a ferry. These boats also have ice-breakers, making travel in the winter convenient for those going and coming on the Baltic Sea. Silja Serenade Features:
There are so many features associated with the Silja including my favorite, shopping of-course. There are boutique stores and convenient stores. You can even find souvenirs for loved ones back home. The large, wide-open spaces of the boats foyer is perfect for window shopping if you just want to browse. There are also little slot machines if you want to do some gambling before returning to shore.
Where to Eat on the Boat:
I can’t say enough about the amazing food you’ll experience on the boat. From the dinner buffet to the breakfast buffet, there was something for everyone. There’s traditional Nordic food, but you can also find eggs and sausages for breakfast. The food is also very kid-friendly as many families are traveling with children. Keep in mind there are other restaurants on the boat. You also have the option of eating at the restaurants on the main level, but these are an additional costs. There is also a supermarket on board where you can purchase all the snacks and cheap alcohol you like.
How and Where You Will Sleep:
There are different rooms available depending on your budget. The rooms are all comfortably sized with a bathroom in each, where you can shower and get ready for the evening. If you have a room with a window to the foyer you’re definitely in the center of all the action. If you have a room with views of the landscape you’re certainly better off than those with rooms in the basement. (I do not recommend these rooms unless you want to be a part of a booze-filled evening) Remember you were warned!
The twin beds were nothing to write home about either, so if you’re not on the boat to party and spend time with friends, sleeping might be a little difficult for you in this area as well.
They Keep You Entertained:
There’s entertainment on the boat from the time you arrive. There are pianos playing in restaurants and music playing in shopping stores. But if you’re looking for some live entertainment after dinner, head to the main stage area on the main floor for live shows, including Grease. If you’re interested in being a part of the entertainment, head to the top floor, just off the elevator and you can enjoy some karaoke with friends.

As you sail through the Baltic on the Silja, the stunning views will make you want to experience this trip over and over again. Passing through the archipelago you’ll see Nordic seaside homes and boats. Depending on the time of year you may even experience the midnight sun which is a view to never forget.
