Are you heading to New York City for a week or even for the weekend? Here’s my list of the best places to eat in New York City for 2021. This list not only talks about the amazing food you will eat, but the cost, atmosphere and customer service. Keep reading for more.
1.
Flipper’s (337 W Broadway)
I found Flipper’s by mistake one day when I went to NY looking for soufflĂ© pancakes. The original spot I was heading to didn’t serve them during the week so I had to find an alternative. That lead me on a 20 minute walk to Soho where I found this great spot with the most fluffy pancakes I’d ever eaten. The cost was moderate but it was definitely worth it for how delicious these pancakes were. If you’re not interested in pancakes there’s a large menu. The truffle fries are also worth a try. You can spend $25 to $30 here on a great meal.
2.
Tea & Sympathy (108 Greenwich Ave.)
This place needs no introduction. I’ve been eating at this place for years and waited an entire year before coming down to have my favorite scones with tea and jam due to the pandemic. At Tea & Sympathy the afternoon tea for one will cost you about $40. But it is worth every bite. The portions are large and if you can’t have it all at once you can get a take-away container. You have the choice of eating indoors or outside. Check out previous posts on Tea & Sympathy here!
3.
Taiyaki NYC (119 Baxter St.)
I’m sure you’ve seen the fish-shaped cones all over social media with cute ice cream shapes on top. But nothing compares to actually tasting these things. I had the luxury of ordering the cup and getting a fish cone to take with me. The fish cone melts right in your mouth once it’s had enough ice cream in it. I’m a serious ice cream lover and I have to say I have never tasted ice cream this amazing in my life so far. A part from the social media buzz this whole in the wall spot in Chinatown is worth every penny. A fish cone with your choice of ice cream will run you $8-10. If you’re in the city definitely stop at Taiyaki NYC.
4.
Lou Lou (176 8th Ave.)
Lou Lou is definitely on my list of best brunch spots in New York City. From the food to the atmosphere every part of the experience here is worth it. I’ve visited twice and I can say I’m certainly heading there a third time before the year ends. The menu has some amazing French dishes including steak frites. The eggs and potatoes definitely hit the spot for Sunday brunch. And nothing can compare to their wide range of drinks and cocktails. The customer service and atmosphere entice you to keep coming back for more. You can expect to spend serious money when you dine here from $60 to 80, but it’s all worth it. It is wise to book reservations before coming, because there will be a long wait.
5.
Laduree Soho (398 W Broadway)
Now, the always elegant Laduree Soho is great for brunch, lunch or dinner. You can book indoor or outdoor garden seating in advance but be aware there is a cancelation fee attached as they take your card information ahead during reservations. The food at Laduree has always been amazing, but there was something different about the menu the last time I visited. The vol-au-vent usually came smaller with more than one piece. This time it was one large vol-au-vent pastry with delicious creamy chicken and mushrooms on top. I was speechless. This French inspired restaurant has the amazing sweets and savories you’re looking for in a classic French bistro. Be prepared for the cost as a meal here could run you from $50 to 80. Don’t forget to stop at the macaron counter as you’re heading out.
6.
Tavern on the Green (W 67th St. “Central Park”)
Looking for another choice when it comes to the best places to eat brunch in New York City, Tavern on the Green is the place for you. I can say from my time here, this beautiful restaurant nestled between trees in Central Park will take your breath away. From food to the beautiful seating areas inside and outdoors, this place hits all the marks for me when it comes to dining in New York City. The customer service was top notch. Our server was very attentive and made us feel like Queens. The food is delicious and filling and certainly worth every penny spent. You can expect to spend $60 to 100 here.
7.
Momofuku’s Noodle Bar (171 1st Ave.)
The final restaurant on my list goes to Momofuku Noodle Bar. I wanted to eat here for so long when I finally arrived it was like walking into a dream. I was tempted to order everything on the menu but I settled for three items. The chicken wings, chicken bun and mushroom noodles. The mushrooms noodles speaks to the soul and I’ve been tempted to stop there and get a bowl to go every time I am in New York. I’m still on task to try everything on the menu. I’ll post an update when I do. Expect to spend between $30 and 60 here. Perhaps a little more if you’re like me, ordering 2nd’s and 3rd’s. The restaurant hours are not typical so please check the website before arriving.
