Indoor Activities for Kids:
If you’re looking for activities during school vacation or something great for the kids on a raining day, New York has much to offer that will keep your children entertained and engaged. I’ve brought my children to many of these amazing locations and they always leave wanting to head back for more.
1. Westchester Children’s Museum
I really loved the Westchester Children’s Museum, its located in Rye, NY on the same property as Play Land. My best-friend used a Groupon for us to enter the museum, which reduced the price of the admission for two from $14 to $10. There was so much for my kids to do, including arts and crafts activities and engineering tools.
2. Children’s Museum of Manhattan
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan has rotating exhibits which I find exciting. Right now they have an explore Japan exhibit that would impress children of all ages. Head there if you’re looking for some engaging hands-on activities just right for all children.
3. Lego Land Discovery Center of Westchester
Located in Yonkers, NY, the Lego Land Discovery Center is filled with amazing activities for kids, giving them an opportunity to use their imagination to create new worlds. Admission will cost you $29 for two using Groupon. The regular price would be $15 to $20 per person.
4. Bronx Museum of the Arts
The Bronx Museum of the Arts offers a lot of unique exhibits for people of all ages. They include several paintings, sculptures and photos by local artists from the Bronx. My favorite part of this. Its FREE!
5. National Museum of the American Indian
The National Museum of the American Indian is located in Manhattan. Being a national museum, admission is also FREE! There’s so much to see and explore here, like artifacts and traditional headdresses. With a collection of art and historical artifacts this museum brings Native American history to life.
6. Children’s Library Discover Center (Queens Library Central Branch)
Located in Queens, the Children’s Library Discover Center offers children an opportunity to explore books, along with hands-on science and math activities. This is a great place to visit when the weather is not the greatest and outdoor activities are not an option.
7. The Metropolitan Art Museum
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a great place for children of all ages. The best part is admission to enter is FREE! Although the museum suggests a donation, it is up to you what you spend. This museum has always been my favorite in NYC. It always feels like a walk through the past when coming here. Certainly a great place for children to explore.

I have to admit that half of those activities still resonate with me, a 24 year old. :’)
That’s good to hear. Thanks for stopping by.
Great list! But some of them look very child-oriented. What do you do while the kids are occupied?
Hi Megan. I’m either taking pics of them or playing with them.
Such cool ideas. Planning to go with my niece and this is juts perfect. Thanks for sharing Xx
Great to hear Sonam. There’s so much to do with the kids in NYC. Try getting using Groupons as well. They help to keep you on budget.
Great suggestions! It is always great to have an article like this in my back pocket when traveling with our kids 🙂
Thanks for the love! Glad they can be useful.
These are all awesome ideas to keep the kids entertained in such a busy city! Something to do everyday if you plan for a week too! Plus even we loved the Legoland!
I would love to do all these, let alone kids. Would love to visit Lego Land. NYC is such an amazing place. There is always something for everybody to do.
It looks like there are plenty of affordable places to take kids in New York. I know I really liked going to museums when I was a kid but I didn’t really like the art museums as much. If I ever take my niece to New York then I’ll have to keep these in mind.
My kids are really into art. You should see my house (walls). I think its best to go with what interests the children.
Great suggestions! I’ve only been to MET but would love to explore each one of these places!
I will say these are not only for kids but for adults like me too. Lego land will be my favorite. Arts museum too looks interesting.
Of course, we have to have fun too, while entertaining the kids.
These are really good tips! It’s not always easy to visit a city with kids so definitely useful!
It’s not. Thanks! Planning ahead makes things so much easier.
Amazing post! The discovery library would be amazing! It is so nice to highlight things to do indoors in case the weather would be bad! Happy kids, happy parents right? Hopefully we can check out New York in the upcoming years.
So true. Hope you guys get here soon.
