Why Visit Bryant Park in Winter?
Bryant Park is Park is located in Midtown Manhattan, between 5th and 6th Ave. and 42nd Street. Whatever season you choose to visit, understand that this is a park and there will be birds and squirrels enjoying the park with you.
As a teenager I spent a lot of time coming to the park and people watching. It’s still one of my favorite places to visit in New York City. The only time I usually get to visit now that I’m an adult is when they have the Winter Village set up. This is definitely an exciting time to visit the park because you now have the added activities like ice-skating, shopping with local vendors and eating. The Winter Village with Holiday Shops are open from October 31st to January 5th. You can still enjoy the skating Rink and Lodge until March 1st.
If you decide to visit New York City this holiday season Bryant Park’s Winter Village is definitely worth a visit. Check out where to eat, what to see and what to do below.
What to Eat:
Where do I begin with what to eat. Walking around the winter village before January 5th the only thing that matters are the food vendors. With items from Korean BBQ and pies to tacos and churros, there’s definitely an endless amount of delicious food to be eaten at the winter village. Once January 5th has passed by there will still be amazing things to eat in the Lodge. If you need a nice cup of hot chocolate, a light snack or a full meal you will find it in the Lodge where you can also stay nice and warm before or after ice-skating.
What to See:
There’s so much to see when you arrive at Bryant Park. Including the large Christmas Tree at the head of the skating rink. The best part is you beat the crowds you would’ve experienced at Rockefeller Center. There are many shops with a variety of local vendors from the area, you might just find that perfect Holiday gift you were searching for all December. But if you don’t plan on making a purchase it doesn’t hurt to walk around and window shop the lovely items each vendor has to offer. From jewelry and art to clothes and shoes, it’s definitely worth it to spend a few hours walking around the winter village.
What to Do:
There’s a lot to do in Bryant Park’s Winter Village including riding the old French style carousel and ice-skating. There’s also juggling or tables for you to play chess. Remember to check the Winter Village website before arriving to book your skate time and pay for your skate rentals or check for upcoming special events.
