Short on Time, But not Short on Fun:

If you’re only in Barcelona for a short time, I have a great list of things you can do when you only have 48 hours in the city. Making the best of your time works well when you are in a city like Barcelona, which is easy to get around. Less time is spent getting to the destination, leaving you with more time for fun. It’s easy to get around Barcelona when you have the accessible 48 hour Barcelona Travel Card. Follow the link for more great planning tips for your next trip to Spain.

Day 1

Visit La Sagrada Familia

A visit to La Sagrada Familia is a great way to start the day. You can get your views of the architecture outside or book a guided tour in advance to view inside the Gaudi masterpiece, still in the works.

Explore Park Guell

From there you can take the bus to Escorial. Not just a photo op destination, Park Guell offers a variety of experiences. At Park Guell you can take in views of the city as well as explore another Gaudi masterpiece in one of the most beautiful areas of Barcelona.

Enjoy a Paella Cooking Class

Book your afternoon cooking class between 12pm and 2pm, giving you enough time to get from one end of the city to another in time for lunch. This is a great opportunity to learn about the local markets and the amazing dishes available in the city.

See a Game at Camp Nou

Once you’ve had your fill, catch the metro from La Rambla to Palau Reial. Be sure to check the schedule in advance before arrival to know exactly when the team has a home game. If you’re unable to catch a game, the Camp Nou museum is a great place to learn more about the team and the great players who have entered the stadium past and present.

Day 2

Visit Barcelona Cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar

Start your 2nd day off strong by heading to Barcelona Cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar. Both churches have a long history within the city. They also have a central location in the Goth Quarter.

Explore the Picasso Museum

Just a few steps from Santa Maria del Mar you will find the Picasso Museum. You can head there without reservations, but keep in mind there will be a long line. My best advice is to get tickets in advance. Take a walk around Picasso’s former home to view some of his classic drawings and paintings.

Walk from Casa Batllo to La Rambla

After enjoying your time in the Gothic Quarter, catch the metro and head to Casa Batllo. From there you can not only view the beautiful architecture of Gaudi, but perhaps take a tour inside. On your way back to La Rambla, take a walk and enjoy views of the city, including shops and museums.

Watch the Sunset at Barceloneta Beach

Where else would you want to be on your last night in this beautiful city. Watching the sunset is a great way to say farewell. If you’re not too tired it’s a great time to check out some great dinner locations nearby, including La Peninsular for some fresh seafood.
