As we all sit at home during this quarantine, I’ve gone back and explored some of my old photos and videos from my travels around the world. We could all use a vacation right now but, but the reality of this is non-existent. I’m starting with Mallorca, Spain. Writing about my time there brings back so many lovely memories of the people, the architecture and the beaches. Continue reading for more of why this island paradise is one of my favorite places in the world and why I’ll return again in the near future.
Seaside Walks in Port d’Alcudia:
The beaches of Port d’Alcudia are clear and beautiful. This was not what I was expecting. But arriving in late May I didn’t realize the water would still have a chill to it either. But it was so beautiful and inviting I couldn’t help but jump in. The beaches and seasides of Port d’Alcudia was also great for long walks. The perfect place for people-watching, sunbathing and a stop for some gelato. The promenade also has a lot of restaurants and shops, I even found some great walking shoes.
Fine Dining in the Old Town of Alcudia:
When I think of my vacation to Mallorca and our experience in Alcudia, apart from the beaches I think of food. Good food. Amazing food. The type of food you dream about. Alcudia is a mixture of old town charm, with local residents shopping at the local markets. But it’s also a great place to enjoy fine dining. For me it was always fine dining with a view. Looking up at the painted window shutters wondering who lived inside and for how long. There were so many lovely restaurants in the old town of Alcudia. But my favorite had to be L’Arca D’En Peter (http://www.larcadenpeter.com/). The traditional Mallorcan flan they offered was like biting into heaven. Worth every bite.
Taking a Day Trip to Palma:
A day trip to Palma is definitely worth it when visiting Mallorca. It was so exciting to visit the first time around we had to do it twice. There’s so much to see along the large tree lined street called Passeig del Born. If you’re not into high-end shopping you can just sit and people-watch while eating a gelato, my favorite flavor is coconut for sure. There’s a lot to see and do in Palma, including visiting the “Fountain”, the Palace of the Royal Family and the Cathedral of Mallorca.
Why I’ll Return to Mallorca:
Visiting Mallorca was a vacation of a lifetime. Mallorca felt like my own little slice of paradise. I’ve wanted to return there from the moment I got off the plane at JFK airport. Everything about this little island calls out my name. From the beaches to the food, there’s so much to love about this island paradise. Although it has a reputation for being a party island, I only experienced the peaceful serenity of Pollenca and Alcudia and the historic lanes of Palma. I have to say the people were also very welcoming to me and my husband. So until I return I’ll continue to remember my time in paradise.
