As someone who enjoys travelling, spending 2020 at home has been difficult. My last trip was in February. We had two more trips that were lined up for March and July, but needless to say anything after March was cancelled. Not being able to travel in 2020 has been hard. But I’ve turned to my favorite travel shows to help me cure some wanderlust. Keep reading for my list.
1. Rick Steves’ Europe
I’ve been watching Rick Steves’ Europe for years on YouTube. The show was not a new discovery for me. Since I was home more than before I decided to subscribe to Hulu. I spent many days watching back to back episodes of Rick Steves shows. He went from Iceland to Italy with Germany and France in between. I loved also loved the episodes where Rick Steves made it to countries outside of Europe. This is a great series to watch if you feel like getting a taste of what the world has to offer, while you can’t get out and travel. 2. The Wine Show
This show caught me by surprise. I was randomly searching through Hulu looking for a show about France and The Wine Show came up as a suggestion. The wine show is mainly hosted by Joe Fattorini. I was not expecting to see to Matthew Goode (Movie: Leap Year and more) hosting this, I was even more surprised to see James Purefoy (TV show: Rome and more). Matthew Goode who is always “good” for television was worth the watch. I loved the knowledge the hosts and the wine experts had about select wines they were searching for around the world. Each episode they incorporated some wine history, which kept the show authentic and educational. Interested in learning about food, wine, and the regions they come from? This show is for you.
3. Travel Man
I honestly wasn’t initially interested in watching this show. I wasn’t really a fan of the dry humor of the shows host. After a few episodes it turned out this show really had some interesting aspects to it. My favorite episodes were the one where they visited Zurich and Barcelona. Travel Man is also surprisingly detailed. I liked that they gave the prices of what you would pay at your hotel or restaurant and even what you would pay for if you decide to do activities in the area.
4. Somebody Feed Phil
This show is another quirky show that caught me by surprise. I didn’t think I would like it at first, but after watching a few episodes of Somebody Feed Phil I knew this was the show for me. If you love good food and watching amazing chefs prepare them, this is the show for you. You can see the love the hosts has for food and the passion for the people and places behind them. Check this one out on Netflix.
5. House Hunters International
If you love watching shows where people are buying house. And you love watching shows that have different types of properties, especially those that need renovations. House Hunters International is the show that gives you all of that and more. What I love most about this show is the fact that you get a view of what living spaces are like in certain countries. This is a great show to watch if you’ve been considering a move overseas. It’s also a good way to think about whether Airbnb’s are for you when compared to hotels when you visit certain countries. Whether you want to experience a local vibe or stay u a hotel that offers you certain amenities. House Hunters International will help you get on your way.
